25 August 2022: During a training session in Kongsvingerhallen, an accident occurs. Mathias Gjerstrøm hooked his foot and suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury.

By then he had just reached 100 games for KIL and played big in midfield, on a team that was really finding its autumn form. 

22 June 2023: After a long, heavy and boring training period, Gjerstrøm has finally been given the go-ahead. He ties his shoes in the changing room and strolls out onto the artificial grass smiling to play with the ball. 

The rest of the playing group applauded what turned out to be a big moment for the elegant midfielder.
